A Little About Our History
The purpose of the Hot Springs Artists Society, Inc. is to develop the cultural, educational and creative well-being of our community through the sponsorship of events, workshops, and public performances.

Supporting Live Music, Art, Live Entertainment and other Cultural Events Since 1997
Hot Springs Artists Society, Inc. is a non-profit coporation. Our tax exempt status
makes us a public charity. We are supported by memberships, charitable donations,
and fund raising events. Anyone can become a member of the society! We appreciate
your support and generosity. Our organization brings events to this small rural
community for the benefit of all. We promote diversity, tolerance, education culture,
and art, art, and more art!
The Hot Springs Artists Society was founded in 1997 by Susan Fay Roberts and a
group of interested citizens in Hot Springs, Montana. In 1998 the Hot Springs Artists
Society was the winner of a grant titled "Arts Are Central To Our Communities"
from the Montana Arts Council and The National Endowment For The Arts.
The artists' society has sponsored many fine musical performances by artists and
programs by visual artists. Musical performers have included:
Elinor Freer and David Ying and the Ying Quartet in Montana Summer Music -2002
and 2003; William Jackson, internationally renowned composer, harpist, and celtic
musician; Don Harmsworth, solo cello and composer; Leon Atkinson, classical and
jazz guitarist; and many, many more.
Dancers including: Susan Faye Roberts; Pan African Drum and Dancers.
Dance bands: Al Lindborg Band.
Theatrical performances included: "Letter to an Imaginary Friend" performed by Craig
Menteer and cello music by Lee Zimmerman.
The Hot Springs Artists Society has sponsored artist's visits through Montana Arts
Council programs like "Artists in the School and Communities Program. Among those
are:Singing Technique and Music Appreciation by Bonnie Jean Triplett in 2001 in two
locations; The String Orchestra of the Rockies in the Hot Springs School in year
1999; Elinor Freer and David Ying and the Ying Quartet in Montana Summer Music
in 2002 and 2003 in Hot Springs and Plains, Montana.
In the past 8 years, we have also:
helped sponsor the main stage in street dance at Homesteader Days.
supplied help and prize money to the doll judging contest at Homesteader Days.
funded piano lessons for children in our community.
brought musical venues to our town each Friday and Saturday night with the only
method of payment being “pass-the-hat”.
sponsored art and healing arts workshops.
provided “umbrella support” for the Hot Springs Pool Committee.
provided “umbrella support” in June for the yearly pow-wow in Hot Springs.
supported and presented the Halloween Ghost Walk in Hot Springs for
all citizens in Hot Springs, young and old.
provided major funding for bringing the Missoula Children’s Theatre to Hot
Springs to perform a play with our school children.
We also have several published writers writing fiction and nonfiction in our
community. They include Stan Stanhope, Liz Fee, Matt Pavelich, Jo Rainbolt and
Sharon Flesch.
Our board members hold strictly non-paying positions. Each member donates hours
of time each month to promote the Artists Society. Last year we added two new
board positions:
Communications Specialist-designed for a person to help get the word out, and a
healing arts specialist-to focus on and include the healing arts in our scope of support.
The Hot Springs Artists Society meets each month on the second Wednesday at 7 p.
